The consequences for Kaliningrad of Lithuania's disconnection from the Russian energy system are named

Prepared for a long time

For the first time in history, Lithuania will be disconnected from the Russian electrical system in order to test the possibility of an isolated existence from it. As a result of the shutdown, Kaliningrad will be temporarily cut off from supplies, as Lithuania ensures the transit of Russian electricity to the region, Bloomberg reports. «MK» figured out what it actually threatens the Russian exclave.

Prepared a long time ago

The Baltic countries intend to further reduce their energy dependence on Moscow and are looking for alternative sources of electricity, writes Bloomberg. If Lithuania managed to abandon oil and gas last year, then energy dependence still remains.

Testing will begin on April 22 and will last from 11 am to 9 pm. Consumers will be supplied with electricity by local Lithuanian power plants, as well as suppliers from Poland and Sweden.

“Testing the isolated operation of the power system is an important part of the preparation for joining the synchronous grid of continental Europe. The test has been agreed with Latvian, Estonian and Russian electrical system operators,” said Rokas Masiulis, CEO of Litgrid.

The Kaliningrad region was preparing for this development long before the start of the NWO in Ukraine. In May 2019, after testing the operation of the power system in an isolated mode in the Russian exclave, they announced that they had become energy independent.

“The condition for the Baltic countries to leave BRELL is the ability of the isolated operation of the electrical system of the Kaliningrad region, and this is what the Russian Federation is now experiencing. That is, we can say that this is part of the process of separating the Baltic electrical system from the unified Russian electrical system,” said then the head of Elering, Taavi Veskimägi.

MK told about the energy situation in Kaliningrad:

— There will be no problems with Kaliningrad. Taking into account not the most pleasant neighborhood in the form of Lithuania, the Kaliningrad authorities have been developing the internal energy potential and increasing their own capacities for more than 10 years. The Baltic countries have been talking for years about the desire to synchronize networks with continental Europe and leave the BRELL ring, which includes Belarus, Russia, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. If one of these countries breaks the chain, then the essence of this ring is lost. Therefore, Kaliningrad quickly came to autonomy.

— It is worth saying that in the current situation it is rather Lithuania that is afraid that Russia will open the ring. Connecting to EU networks is unprofitable. It's significantly more expensive. In addition, Eastern Europe lacks the necessary infrastructure, and its construction requires considerable investment.

But Russia has never blackmailed the Baltic states with such questions. On the contrary, it is more important for Moscow to have the status of a reliable supplier of energy resources, and Russia has never created interruptions in supplies. Therefore, if they want, then let them turn off. For Russia, this will have absolutely no meaning.
