Strangled by a former partner, a Yekaterinburg woman repeatedly asked the police to protect her from beatings and harassment of a man

Yekaterinburger Valentina Bushuyeva, who was strangled by her former partner, tried for several years to bring him to justice for beatings. The woman's lawyer Alexandra Kuznetsova told the Consortium of Women's Non-Governmental Associations that the police did not respond to the allegations.

On April 21, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Sverdlovsk Region announced the discovery of the murder of a woman «hot on the trail». The police called it «Shakespeare's denouement». According to them, on April 17, Bushuyeva's former partner strangled her as a result of a drunken quarrel. The security forces said that the man frankly confessed to the murder.

A friend of the murdered Anastasia, in a commentary on It's My City, called the police version of a drunken quarrel «a lie.»

“The version of the police that Valya drank at home with him is a lie. She is generally a non-drinker. Even when we girls got together, she did not touch alcohol. If suddenly alcohol is found in her blood, it means that he forced her by force, ”she said.

The Consortium of Women's Non-Governmental Associations writes that for several years Bushueva tried to break off relations with her partner named Elvir and hid from him in a crisis center. According to the woman’s lawyer, in 2021, after the beatings, she contacted the police twice. There, having recorded the beatings and taking explanations from Bushuyeva, they refused to draw up protocols against the man.

In 2022, Kuznetsova appealed to the prosecutor's office with complaints about the inaction of the police. The oversight agency, according to the lawyer, demanded that the violations be eliminated, but the security forces still did not try to protect Bushuyeva.

Elvir constantly pursued his former partner, and she and her daughter had to change places of residence several times. In February 2023, Bushueva again contacted the police. The district police officer Ruslan Bagautdinov had a conversation with the man and took a receipt from him, in which Elvir promised «not to use physical force, not to conflict with his ex-wife Valentina in the presence of a joint child.»

In March The “Consortium of Women's Non-Governmental Associations” wrote that Bagautdinov allegedly did not know Elvir's whereabouts, so the police “cannot move forward in the procedure for investigating the beatings”. In mid-April, the lawyer spoke to the victim for the last time. Bushueva said that the former partner returned from work and came to her. The woman again turned to the district police officer, who promised that this time the case of beatings would go to court.
