VLADIKAVKAZ, April 30Evgeny Vakhtangov House opened in Vladikavkaz. Actors and directors of the Vakhtangov Theater (Moscow), as well as guests, came to the celebration. The solemn word was delivered by the head of North Ossetia-Alania Sergey Menyailo.
“I want to congratulate all of us that the house of our fellow countryman, the founder of the theater school, has opened in Vladikavkaz. Today this is a cultural event not only for the republic, but for the whole of Russia,” the head of the republic said. 
The project was conceived by the staff of the Vakhtangov Theater back in 2018. Then the building in Vladikavkaz was in disrepair, but people lived in it.
“When we held the first meeting with the residents, I was afraid that it would be terrible, because there was a question of resettlement. But to my great surprise, there was no indignation. The residents knew the history of the house. Everyone received a new comfortable apartment. conclusion about the state of the house: we were required to leave only the outer walls, everything else had to be strengthened and thoroughly reconstructed,” said Kirill Krok, director of the Vakhtangov Theatre.

The director emphasized that 250 million rubles from the theater's own funds were spent on the reconstruction of the building and the creation of the museum in two years. Sponsors also helped resettle the house.
According to Krok, two interesting things were found during the reconstruction of the building: a horseshoe buried under the door, and a World War II mine in the yard.

Museum and art cafe: how the Vakhtangov House in Vladikavkaz works
The Vakhtangov Museum is located on the second and third floors of the building. People's Artist of Russia Irina Kupchenko noticed that the space has become a monument to a person whose childhood was spent in Vladikavkaz.“First of all, this is a home. The most ordinary person who lived here, breathed this air, was inspired by the beauty of these places. And everything in the museum is done with awe and love, you can feel it,” said Kupchenko.
At the same time, a place was found on the ground floor for an art cafe, where creative meetings with artists will take place.
“The museum is an exceptionally quiet space. But as Vakhtangov said, there is no holiday — there is no performance. Therefore, on the one hand, we recreated the living quarters of that time, filled them with exhibits. On the other hand, we created a chamber theater hall on the ground floor for 80 seats and called the art cafe. This format has been successfully operating for about eight years in Moscow. There will be solo performances, and people will sit at the tables, «Krok said.
Artists of the Moscow Vakhtangov Theater will be the first to give performances in the art cafe. Also one day there will be an evening of People's Artist of Russia Lyudmila Maksakova, and on May 6, People's Artist of Russia Olga Tumaikina will give her performance «45 Shades of Different».
“I will share my joy. It is a great honor for me to perform in the art cafe. I prepare very reverently, because every time for me such one-man performances are an exam, and an opening, and a fight, and an acquaintance. The evening will be special. In addition, Vakhtangov's theater will tour in Vladikavkaz. Eugene Onegin, Mademoiselle Nitush, Oedipus Rex, Richard III, The Tale of the Priest and His Worker Balda, Anne Frank's Diary and Love at the Throne will be shown on the stages of the Russian and North Ossetian theaters . 
The festive opening day of the Vakhtangov House will end with a concert featuring theater artists and pop stars, including Nikolai Baskov, Mariam Merabova and Larisa Dolina.
