SARATOV, May 3 .A court in the Saratov region sentenced a local resident to three years of suspended liberty on charges of murdering a newborn daughter, whose body was found by police in a forest belt near the city of Kalininsk, the regional prosecutor's office and the department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation reported.
Earlier, the investigation stated that in November last year, a resident of Kalininsk complained to the police that her 37-year-old pregnant neighbor had lost signs of pregnancy, but she was hiding the child. According to the prosecutor's office, in December, police outside the city in the forest belt «Dudnikov Les» found the body of a newborn child. The Investigative Committee opened a case under the article of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation «Murder of a newborn child by a mother.»
«By a court verdict, the defendant was sentenced to three years' imprisonment on probation with a probationary period of three years,» the SUSK telegram channel says.
The department clarified that the woman was not registered for pregnancy.
The regional prosecutor's office clarifies in its telegram channel that, as the court established, the defendant gave birth to a daughter at home, and then, due to the fact that the child was crying and did not fall asleep, she covered his mouth and nose with her hand until the baby stopped showing signs of life, after which she hid the body of the girl, burying it in the forest near Kalininsk.
The verdict has not yet entered into force and can be appealed.
