Romania imposed a temporary ban on grain imports from Ukraine

CHISINAU, May 3. The Romanian authorities have introduced a temporary ban on the import of wheat, corn, sunflower and rapeseed from Ukraine, which will be valid until June 5, the press service reported National Veterinary Sanitation and Food Safety Administration (ANSVSA).
The EC said it had taken measures on Tuesday to import certain grains from Ukraine. According to the commission, the measures are aimed at eliminating the logistical difficulties associated with these products in Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia. They came into force on May 2 and will last until June 5.
“The National Veterinary Sanitation and Food Safety Authority applies the new provisions of the commission’s executive regulation of May 2, 2023… ANSVSA will not allow imports to Romania of wheat, corn, sunflower and rapeseed originating from Ukraine from the date of entry into the force of the aforementioned regulation until June 5, 2023,» the department said in a statement.
These measures do not apply to import agreements that were concluded before May 2. For other non-animal products that are not covered by these new rules, ANSVSA has established strict controls at points of entry and exit into the country so as not to interfere with the transit of goods.
