MOSCOW, May 3. A new batch of three spacesuits for spacewalks by Russian cosmonauts from the International Space Station will be made in 2024-2025, the Roscosmos press service told reporters.
«One suit is planned to be produced in 2024, two more — in 2025. They will be made using domestic materials,» the report says.
It is noted that the Orlan space suits are manufactured by the Zvezda research and production enterprise named after Academician Severin, commissioned by the Energia rocket and space corporation named after Korolev (part of Roscosmos).
The press service clarified that in order to continue the operation of the two Orlan-ISS spacesuits currently at the station, spare parts have been created and are being delivered to the ISS.
At present, spacesuits of the latest generation «Orlan-MKS» are used for spacewalks under the Russian program. Earlier it was reported that a defective battery of one of these spacesuits was delivered to Earth in the Soyuz MS-22 descent module on March 28.
