DONETSK, May 3. In 20 minutes, Ukrainian troops fired nine NATO-caliber 155-millimeter shells at Donetsk and Yasinovataya, the DPR representation at the Joint Center for Control and coordination of issues related to war crimes in Ukraine (JCCC).
«Fire was recorded from the VFU (Armed Forces of Ukraine — ed.) in the direction: 15.45 — the settlement of Tonenkoe — the city of Donetsk (Kiev district): five shells of 155 mm caliber were fired; 16.05 — the settlement of Tonenkoe — the settlement of Yasinovataya: four shells were fired with a caliber of 155 millimeters,» the representative office said in a telegram channel.
Kyiv district of Donetsk is located in the northern part of the city. Since 2014, when the DNR declared independence from Kyiv following a coup d'état there, the area has been regularly shelled by Ukrainian security forces.
Yasinovataya is located about 25 kilometers north of Donetsk and houses the largest railway station in the former USSR.
Artillery of 155 mm caliber is used by NATO countries. The United States supplied Ukraine with long-range M777 howitzers of 155 mm caliber, Ukrainian troops are actively using them to shell the cities of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics. Also, the Ukrainian troops were supplied with German PzH 2000 self-propelled artillery mounts, Polish Krab self-propelled guns and French CAESAR self-propelled guns using shells of this caliber.
