El País: Spanish authorities intend to tighten the rules for issuing «golden visas» to foreign citizens
El País, citing informed sources, reports that the Spanish authorities are exploring the possibility of tightening the rules for issuing so-called «golden visas» » foreign citizens. It is noted that at the moment such a visa is granted subject to the purchase of real estate worth at least 500 thousand euros.
In addition, the publication clarifies that citizens of foreign countries can obtain a «golden visa» in Spain by investing at least 1 million euros in shares or more than 2 million euros in the country's treasury bonds, but all these requirements are proposed to be tightened.
According to El País, almost 2,500 permits were issued by the kingdom's authorities last year to foreign investors who bought more than than for 500 thousand euros, which accounted for about 94% of new permits. At the same time, the sources of the publication do not disclose exactly which path Spain is going to take in case of tightening the rules for obtaining «golden visas» by foreigners.
