Historian identifies bridge in Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa

MOSCOW, 6 May. Italian historian Silvano Vincheti identified the bridge in the Mona Lisa painting, writes The Guardian. He is sure that Leonardo da Vinci depicted Gioconda against the backdrop of the Etruscan-Roman Romito di Laterina near Arezzo in Tuscany across the Arno River.

It was previously hypothesized that there are other buildings behind the Mona Lisa. It was believed that these could be Ponte Burianona north of Arezzo and Ponte Bobbio across the Trebbia River. But Vincheti disputed these assumptions.

Now Romito di Laterina is dilapidated. Only one arch has survived. However, the historian calculated that earlier there were four of them near the viaduct — the same number in the Da Vinci painting. The bridges of Burianon and Bobbio have more such structures.

Vincheti also studied the old documents of the Medici family. According to them, in 1501-1503, Romito di Laterina was very lively. He shortened the route between Arezzo, Fiesole and Florence by several hours. And just at that time, da Vinci lived somewhere near Arno — he served with Cardinal Cesare Borgia. And then he worked for Piero Soderini, a Florentine statesman.
Another historian drew attention to the bend of the river near Romito di Laterina. According to the expert, it coincides with the landscape in the cult painting.
It was previously reported that a scientist from Italy found the Caucasian roots of Leonardo da Vinci.
