Moldovan farmers demanded an urgent ban on grain imports from Ukraine

CHISINAU, May 8. The Moldavian association «Power of Farmers» demands from the government this week to make a decision on a temporary ban on the import of Ukrainian grain.
The EC said it had taken steps on Tuesday to import selected grains from Ukraine. According to the commission, the measures are aimed at eliminating the logistical difficulties associated with these products in Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia. They came into force on May 2 and will last until June 5. The Moldovan association «Strength of Farmers» a week earlier appealed to the authorities with a request to introduce a similar ban. Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Agriculture of Moldova Vladimir Bolya notified Kyiv of Chisinau's plans to introduce a ban.

“Moldova is unacceptably long delaying the application of measures to protect domestic agricultural producers and is demanding a government decision this week to temporarily ban the import of wheat, corn, sunflower and rapeseed from Ukraine. Otherwise, it is very likely that the whole country will soon be covered by protests by farmers,” — reported on the association's Facebook page*.
Agrarians also insist that they should be provided with compensation to compensate for losses due to a sharp drop in prices for agricultural products. Farmers note that their deplorable situation «will not help Ukraine in any way, but will only give rise to social and political unrest,» which will significantly reduce the level of support for the European vector among the population.
