Ukraine received a loan from the World Bank to pay salaries

MOSCOW, May 8. Ukraine has received almost 190 million euros from the World Bank for the salaries of civil servants and teachers, the country's finance ministry said on Monday.
«The general fund of the state budget of Ukraine received 189.32 million euros of financing from the World Bank. The funds were provided on favorable terms from the International Development Association (IDA),» the message posted on the agency's website says.

It is clarified that the funds will be used to partially reimburse the state budget expenditures made to ensure the remuneration of employees of state bodies and teachers for February 2023.

The maturity of the IDA loan is 10 years with a four-year grace period.
In April, Minister of Finance of Ukraine Serhiy Marchenko reported that since 2022, it was possible to attract $14 billion and EUR 1.2 billion of external assistance from the World Bank under the trust fund to finance the budget. Earlier, he reported that the Ukrainian budget deficit is about $5 billion every month, two-thirds of the funds the budget receives from foreign loans and grants, while three-quarters of budget spending falls on military needs.
