The State Duma explained why only one T-34 tank participated in the Victory Parade in Moscow
The Russian State Duma Defense Committee commented on the discussion on social networks about one of the features of the current Victory Parade on Krasnaya area. As viewers noticed on the morning of May 9, armored vehicles, missile systems and only one tank, the Soviet T-34-85, took part in the mechanized part of the parade.
«So what? They're not at war!» «Committee member Viktor Zavarzin. — This tank is the lead tank, it is a symbolic tank.»
According to him, although various modifications of tanks, including the latest developments, took part in the parades earlier, it's just «the decision has now been made that way.»
«There is no catch, no trick,» said the deputy. «We have enough of these tanks.»
Zavarzin concluded his comment by praising the past parade, including for the visit of the heads neighboring states: «The point is to show the people that the country is combat ready.»
The parade on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the Victory lasted about 45 minutes, there was no air unit. After the event, Russian President Vladimir Putin and the heads of seven CIS countries proceeded to the Eternal Flame in the Alexander Garden to lay flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
