ISTANBUL, May 9 Participants of Istanbul Grain Deal Summit scheduled for May 10-11 to discuss extension of deal and evacuation of Turkish ships , said the Turkish Defense Ministry.
“At the meeting scheduled for May 10-11… the extension of the “grain deal” and the development of a plan for the safe evacuation of Turkish ships and crew stuck in Ukrainian ports will be discussed,” the Turkish Defense Ministry said in a statement.
The report notes that the meeting will include both quadrilateral and bilateral negotiations between the participants.
The Black Sea Grain Initiative, which was signed on July 22, 2022 by representatives of Russia, Turkey, Ukraine and the UN, involves the export of Ukrainian grain, food and fertilizer across the Black Sea from three ports, including Odessa. The coordination of vessel traffic is handled by the Joint Coordination Center in Istanbul. Russian President Vladimir Putin pointed out in September that the West exports most of the Ukrainian grain to its own states, and not to needy countries in Africa. From March 18, 2023, Russia extended the deal for 60 days — until May 18, Ukraine insists that the deal has been extended for 120 days.
The Black Sea Grain Initiative is an integral part of the package agreement. The second part — the Russia-UN memorandum, designed for three years — provides for the unblocking of Russian exports of food and fertilizers, the reconnection of Rosselkhozbank to SWIFT, the resumption of supplies of agricultural machinery, spare parts and services, the restoration of the Togliatti-Odessa ammonia pipeline and a number of other measures. As noted in Moscow, this part of the package agreement has not yet been implemented. ratio=»1.747058823529412″ data-crop-width=»600″ data-crop-height=»1048″ data-source-sid=»rian_infographics» title=»Under what conditions will Russia extend the grain deal in May 2023 » class=» article__infographics-image-mobile lazyload» lazy=»1″ />
