On April 12, the Pereslavl District Court of the Yaroslavl Region sent Sergei Abramov, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, under house arrest. According to publications, Abramov is accused of transferring money to an “extremist organization” (Part 1 of Article 282.3 of the Criminal Code ). Cases under this article were previously initiated, for example, because of the FBK donation of politician Alexei Navalny, the collection of donations by Jehovah's Witnesses and the alleged transfer of cash to the Right Sector.
The press service of the regional court confirmed to journalists the case of domestic arrest under this article, refusing to name the accused. In court, only his year of birth was given — 1957, like Abramov's.
The publication does not give details of the accusation.
From 2005 to 2022, Abramov headed the Institute of Program Systems of the Russian Academy of Sciences named after Ailamazyan in Pereslavl-Zalessky, which develops supercomputers, and was also the rector of the associated «University of the city of Pereslavl», which existed until 2017. In addition, Abramov was the scientific director from Russia of the joint supercomputer programs SKIF and SKIF-GRID with Belarus.
