WASHINGTON, May 11 Former US President Donald Trump filed an appeal on the verdict issued earlier by the New York jury in the case of the attempted rape of the writer and journalist Jean Carroll, the corresponding document was submitted to the judicial database.
«This is to inform you that the accused Donald John Trump is filing an appeal with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit against the May 11, 2023 decision in his related case,» the document reads.
On Tuesday, a jury in New York ruled that Trump molested Carroll in the spring of 1996, but did not commit the rape that she initially accused the politician of. The court ordered the ex-president to pay the plaintiff a total of $5 million: $2 million in damages and another $3 million for defamation of Carroll and damage to her reputation.
Trump previously called the verdict «a disgrace and the greatest witch hunt.» He also made the assertion that after the allegations of rape Carroll, his ratings rose, and such cases are opened to interfere in the elections.
