The World Court of the Savelovsky District of Moscow fined VK Group 60 thousand under the protocol on the leakage of personal data of mail users on Mail.ru (part 1 of article 13.11 of the Code of Administrative Offenses). Interfax was informed about this by the press service of the court.
The company, headed by the son of the deputy head of the presidential administration, Sergei Kiriyenko, Vladimir, received the minimum possible fine under the law.
The leak of approximately 3.5 million emails from users of the Mail.ru service owned by VK Group became known in January 2023. According to the court, it occurred as a result of «the penetration of an external attacker in April 2022 into the test loop of the operator's IT infrastructure.»
Previously, similar minimum fines under personal data leakage protocols were imposed on the Higher School of Economics, an online school English language Skyeng, a network of laboratories «Hemotest» and the service «Yandex.Food».
