MOSCOW, May 12. Member of the International Committee of the Federation Council , LDPR member Elena Afanasyeva suggested that Ella Pamfilova, chairwoman of the Central Election Commission of Russia, return to a one-day vote instead of a three-day one, which was established during the pandemic, according to the telegram channel «LDPR Fraction in the State Duma».
The senator recalled that on May 5, WHO announced the end of the state of emergency for COVID-19 in the world, and sanitary restrictions in the Russian Federation were canceled everywhere.
«The norm, acceptable in a pandemic, should not become permanent,» Afanasyeva stressed.
The parliamentarian explained that the return to one-day voting «will save the election commissions from a colossal burden» and also «save budgetary funds for the needs of the SVO.»
On May 5, the World Health Organization (WHO) has canceled the status of a global COVID-19 pandemic, declared in 2020.
This year's elections in Russia are planned on a single voting day on September 10.
