The departure of Western content from Russian services and TV channels has created a unique situation for the Russian audience, now there are more opportunities for viewers to consume domestic content, said Ekaterina Larina, Director of the Department for the Development of Mass Communications and International Cooperation of the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation.
“In connection with the departure of Western majors and Western content from our services, from TV channels, the fact that they, referring to the sanctions regime, deprive us, the Russian audience of the opportunity to view their works, has finally created a unique situation: to give more opportunities to viewers, our the audience to learn and consume exactly domestic content, which has been created in considerable quantities in recent years, and especially in the last two or three years,» Larina said at the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum.
She noted that this is due, among other things, to the development of audiovisual services, investments in national content have gone.
“The fact that these two moments coincided gave us unique results: we analyzed the situation at our leading online cinemas just a month or a couple of months ago. It turned out that content consumption did not decrease, but increased, that is, leaving part of the content did not create any problems,» she explained.
