According to the Ukrainian leader, at a meeting with Scholz they discussed the situation on the battlefield.
“We are not attacking the territory of the Russian Federation,” Zelensky told reporters, answering a question whether he considers it possible as part of a hypothetical counter-offensive, occupy part of Russian territory to strengthen the negotiating position.
“We have neither the strength nor the time for this,” the President of Ukraine said.
At the same time, he added: “And we don't have any weapons left with which we could do it.”
According to him, Kiev is still preparing a counteroffensive. He admitted that in case of failure, several more countries would consider the need for peace negotiations. “But we are almost ready for success,” he said.
Earlier, Zelensky met in Germany with President Frank-Walter Steinmeier at his Bellevue residence, and then went to Chancellor Scholz’s office to negotiate with him.
Before Zelensky's arrival, the German government agreed on a 2.7 billion euro military aid package for Kiev.
