Two-time Olympic champion Inna Deriglazova has no chance of getting admission from the International Fencing Federation (FIE) to international competitions due to the fact that the foil fencer has an officer's rank, said Ilgar Mammadov, president of the Russian Fencing Federation (FFR).
Earlier, Mammadov said that the FIE did not allow a number of leading athletes to participate in international competitions, including Olympic champions Sofia Velikaya, Sofia Pozdnyakova and Yana Yegoryan.
«There are no prospects for admission. Of course they won't, she (Deriglazova) is an officer of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation,» Mammadov said.
Also, the head of the federation said that the FIE has not yet sent lists of allowed fencers in rapier and épée.
Earlier, the FIE Congress by a majority of votes decided to return Russian and Belarusian fencers to international competitions from mid-April. In March 2023, the executive committee of the International Olympic Committee recommended that international federations allow Russians who did not support the special operation as neutral athletes to start. At the same time, the organization proposes not to allow athletes associated with the armed forces or security agencies to participate in the tournaments.
