The European Union is aware that Indian refineries buy large volumes of crude oil from Russia, which they then refine into fuel and sell to Europe, he said. This, the European official believes, contributes to the circumvention of sanctions, so the EU must take action.
Borrell himself plans to meet with Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in the near future. Earlier, due to the war in Ukraine, the countries of the European Union, the G7 and Australia imposed a cap on the price of Russian oil at 60 dollars per barrel — it began to operate on December 5, 2022. A few months later, the European Union introduced similar restrictions on oil products from Russia.
