WASHINGTON, May 16. One of the Patriot air defense systems delivered to Kiev was damaged in a Russian missile strike, CNN reported, citing a White House official.
The channel's interlocutor refused to acknowledge that the anti-aircraft missile system was destroyed. Now Washington is assessing the extent of the damage in order to understand whether it is necessary to completely decommission this system or repair it by the efforts of the Ukrainian side.
The publication does not specify exactly where the affected air defense system was located.
The Pentagon, in response to a request, said that they were not ready to provide information about the alleged damage to the Patriot air defense system.
The Ministry of Defense today announced a massive strike on the points of deployment of units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as places of storage of ammunition, weapons and equipment delivered from Western countries. In particular, a Kinzhal hypersonic missile destroyed an American Patriot anti-aircraft missile system in Kyiv.
Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yuriy Ignat declined to comment on the incident.
