VLADIVOSTOK, May 18. A foreigner was sentenced to 5 years in a penal colony for illegally cutting down more than 250 trees in Primorye, the damage from which exceeded 34 million rubles, according to the regional prosecutor's office .
«»Khasansky District Court of Primorsky Krai issued a verdict in a criminal case against a foreign citizen. He was found guilty under Part 3 of Article 260 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal logging of forest plantations and trees not classified as forest plantations) …. The court sentenced guilty to 5 years in prison with a sentence in a correctional colony of general regime, and also satisfied the prosecutor's claim to recover from him the amount of damage caused to the state,» the report says.
The court found that from November to December 2021, the convict involved workers who did not know that these actions were illegal, and cut down more than 250 trees. The amount of damage caused to the forest fund exceeded 34 million rubles.
A law enforcement source clarified that the convict is a Chinese citizen.
