During the debate in the Oktyabrsky District Court of Yekaterinburg, the state prosecution requested a fine for the ex-mayor of the city, Yevgeny Roizman. The meeting is broadcast by E1.ru.
The prosecutor asked to fine Roizman 280 thousand rubles, but taking into account the circumstances, mitigate it to 260 thousand rubles.
Roizman is charged under part 1 of article 280.3 of the Criminal Code (“discrediting” the army). The case was opened because of a live broadcast on YouTube, which took place on July 1, 2022. On that day, Roizman answered questions from the audience and uttered, in particular, the phrases «war in Ukraine» and «invasion of Ukraine.»
The case was conducted by investigators from the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Central Administrative District of Moscow, but in essence it is being considered by a court in Yekaterinburg. As a measure of restraint, the politician was chosen to ban certain actions — he is forbidden to attend public events and use any means of communication.
During the consideration of the case on the merits, the characterization of Roizman was sent to court by People's Artist of the USSR Alla Pugacheva, wife of the first president of Russia Boris Yeltsin Naina Yeltsin, former editor-in-chief of Ekho Moskvy Alexei Venediktov, member of the Human Rights Council Eva Merkacheva, directors Nikolay Kolyada and Alexey Fedorchenko.
