A programmer from Rostov-on-Don was sentenced to 3 years in a colony-settlement in the case of attacks on the websites of the Ministry of Defense and the Presidential Administration on the instructions of Ukraine

The Rostov Regional Court has sentenced programmer Yevgeny Kotikov to three years in a colony-settlement in the case of DDoS attacks on the websites of the Ministry of Defense and the presidential administration. This was reported to the local publication «City N» in the press service of the regional department of the FSB.

The man was also ordered to pay a fine of 800 thousand rubles. In addition, according to Arguments and Facts, Kotikov's work computer, from which, according to the prosecution, the attacks were carried out, was confiscated.

The FSB claims that in February 2022, the programmer “sided with Ukraine” and joined a group of hackers whose actions led to the blocking of government websites. A criminal case was opened against Kotikov on the use of programs designed to unlawfully influence critical information infrastructure (Part 1 of Article 274.1 of the Criminal Code).

The details of the case and the position of the defense are unknown.

In August 2021, a similar criminal case was opened against a programmer from the Kaluga region. He claimed that he was trying to hack the Rostec website because he wanted to check it for vulnerabilities.
