During the International Economic Forum «Russia — Islamic World: KazanForum» Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Marat Khusnullin announced the creation of an international consortium, including seven countries, with the aim of developing the North-South transport corridor. The legal structure of the consortium is currently in the process of registration, RIA Novosti clarifies.

Khusnullin noted that the financial mechanism of the project has already been worked out, and all parties to the consortium have familiarized themselves with the transport corridors and agreed on routes.

According to him, Russia needs a transport corridor connecting the country with the countries of the Middle East and the Indian Ocean. It is planned to combine cargo transportation by road and rail through Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan. It also provides for the integration of the transport corridor with Iran and India through ports in the Caspian Sea and railway lines covering the Caspian Sea from both sides.

Khusnullin stressed that the transport corridor will not only be one road, but also a network of railway lines. and transport routes. According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the volume of cargo traffic of this transport corridor will be comparable to the Suez Canal, reaching an indicator of 100 million tons per year.
