BEJING, May 22.The screening of U.S. semiconductor company Micron, which resulted in Chinese authorities banning critical information infrastructure operators from purchasing the company's products, was a necessary national security measure, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said at a briefing on Monday.
China's Cyberspace Administration said on Sunday that US semiconductor company Micron has failed its cybersecurity audit and that critical information infrastructure operators in China should stop purchasing the company's products.
“I want to emphasize that the relevant verification is designed to prevent problems with ensuring the cybersecurity of products, (prevent) threats to the security of the country’s key information infrastructure, this is a necessary measure to ensure national security,” the diplomat said.
Reuters, citing a representative of the US Department of Commerce, reported earlier that the US authorities consider the ban on the purchase of products of the American company Micron in China to be groundless.
At the end of April, the Financial Times, citing sources, reported that the US authorities asked South Korea to urge its chip makers not to sell them in the Chinese market in the event of a ban on the activities of the American company Micron there.< br />
