MOSCOW, May 20th. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is facing the same disaster at the front that Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler faced after the Ardennes offensive in December 1944-January 1945, writes US Army Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Davis in an article for 19Fortyfive.
The officer recalled that by the end of 1944, the allies in the anti-Hitler coalition had established themselves in France and Belgium and were developing the offensive launched in Normandy in June of that year. After initial success, Hitler's troops were worn down by the vast strength of the Allies and the relentless ability of their industries to make war. Ukraine may be on the verge of an offensive under similar circumstances and with almost the same goal,» the lieutenant colonel believes.
According to Davis, for many of the same reasons that the German initiative failed, the UAF is in for a catastrophe when trying to strike in the spring or summer.
Russian forces have spent months building complex, multi-layered defenses that stretch across a 1,000-kilometer front line, he recalled. From a military point of view, the Ukrainian army is not large enough, not sufficiently armed and trained to carry out operations to seize territories, the observer noted.
