Billionaire warns of coming 'drone wars'

Elon Musk criticized artificial intelligence (AI), stating that it «is not necessary for everything we do».

According to Sky News, the owner of Tesla, Twitter and SpaceX said that superintelligence is a «double-edged sword.»

«If you have a genie that can grant you anything, it is dangerous «, according to the billionaire, who said artificial intelligence could be used to create «drone wars».

Speaking via video link at the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) Board of Directors Summit in London, Elon Musk said he expects governments around the world to primarily use artificial intelligence to develop weapons.

«Thus, it's just that having better weapons on the battlefield that can react faster than any human could, that's really what artificial intelligence is capable of,» claims the billionaire inventor.

“Any future wars between developed countries, or at least countries with drone capabilities, will be largely drone wars,” predicts Elon Musk.

“I don’t think artificial intelligence is necessary for everything we do,” he said.

In March, Musk was among a number of technology experts who urged scientists to suspend the development of artificial intelligence so that it does not pose a danger to humanity, recalls Sky News.< /p>

More than 1,000 people have signed an open letter demanding that all labs stop teaching artificial intelligence systems for at least six months.

Experts have called for a temporary end to the «dangerous race» to develop systems more powerful than the recently launched multimodal large language OpenAI's GPT-4 model.

If such a pause cannot be introduced quickly, the letter says, then governments should intervene and impose a moratorium.

The prevalence of artificial intelligence has increased significantly in recent years , and systems like the ChatGPT chatbot are quickly becoming part of everyday life.

The success of ChatGPT and image-generating tools like Midjourney has spurred an AI arms race between established tech giants Microsoft and Google, with the former backing OpenAI software and its longtime rival developing its own chatbot, Bard.

While AI chatbots impress with their ability to take exams, write speeches and solve equations, skeptics warn they can be used to spread disinformation and facilitate criminal activity.

Elon Musk warns: » One of the first places you need to be careful using artificial intelligence is social media to manipulate public opinion.»

When asked how big the changes will be in the upcoming US presidential election, Musk responded: «I think that's something we need to look at to minimize the impact of AI manipulation. We certainly take this seriously on Twitter and I think we're putting all safeguards in place to detect large-scale system manipulation.»

Meanwhile, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis will announce his 2024 presidential campaign at a Twitter Spaces event with Elon Musk on Wednesday. DeSantis, seen as Donald Trump's main rival for the Republican nomination, will reveal his plans in an audio recording of a conversation with the owner of Twitter.
