UN, May 24 on the issue of a Palestinian-Israeli settlement, Vasily Nebenzya, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the organization, said at a meeting of the UN Security Council.
«The double standards of our American colleagues are evident in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. The United States continues unilateral attempts to reverse the degradation «on the ground» by replacing the real political world with the economic one,» Nebenzya said.
According to him, by blocking the work of the Middle East quartet of international mediators, the United States is stubbornly promoting Arab-Israeli normalization, bypassing a just solution to the Palestinian problem.
«The main paradox here is that Washington, which claims to be the sole sponsor of the Middle East settlement process, has long and completely lost the neutrality and impartiality that are indispensable for an honest broker,» Nebenzya emphasized.
According to the permanent representative, the decision of the previous administration to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights crossed out the US commitment to key resolutions of the Security Council and the UN General Assembly.
