    YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, May 25. The Ebeko volcano on the Kuril island of Paramushir on Thursday threw out a column of ash 1 kilometer high, informs the main department of the Russian Emergencies Ministry for the Sakhalin Region.
    “The Crisis Management Center of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the Sakhalin Region received information from the island volcanic response team of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences that an ash ejection occurred on the Ebeko volcano to a height of 1 kilometer. The plume spread southward for a distance of more than 5 kilometers,» the press service of the department clarifies.
    According to dispatchers, no ashfall was observed in Severo-Kurilsk, the smell of hydrogen sulfide was not felt. There is no threat to the life of the population.

    The Ebeko Volcano, 1156 meters high, is located on Paramushir Island, seven kilometers northwest of Severo-Kurilsk, in the northern part of the Vernadsky Ridge. Regular releases (weak to moderate) on it have been ongoing since October 20, 2016, which is normal activity for a volcano. The record release was registered on August 31, 2018. Then a plume of smoke shot up to a height of six kilometers from the new vent of the volcano, formed in 2017.
