MOSCOW, May 24. The Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) has postponed the timing of the release of recommendations on the participation of Russian athletes and officials in the events of international sports organizations, the official website of the ROC reports.
It is noted that consultations with international organizations continue. The meeting of the Executive Committee of the ROC on May 25 will be held behind closed doors without voting on this document.
“In the current conditions, additional time is required for discussion with all interested organizations, taking into account the necessary practical effectiveness of the recommendations, primarily for all-Russian sports federations. The ROC expresses its solidarity with Russian athletes who, due to illegal and illegitimate sanctions, are limited in participation in international competitions over the past 15 months,» the message says.
On March 28, the Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that international federations allow Russian and Belarusian athletes who did not support the SVO to participate in international competitions as neutral athletes, while proposing not to consider teams from Russia as participants in international competitions in team sports. The IOC Executive Board also recommended that athletes associated with the armed forces or security agencies should not be allowed to compete.
ROC President Stanislav Pozdnyakov said on May 11 that the IOC is imposing criteria under which the participation of the vast majority of Russian athletes in international competitions and qualifying competitions for the Olympic Games is unrealistic. According to him, the recommendations of the IOC are tools of thinly veiled suspension, discrimination and double standards applied on the basis of nationality.
