WASHINGTON, May 26 allocation of a new aid package to Ukraine in the amount of about $300 million, Reuters reported, citing several US government sources.
According to these data, the new military assistance package will include GMLRS guided missiles for HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems, as well as ammunition for other weapons. The new tranche of aid will be provided at the expense of the Pentagon's arsenals. Washington expects to announce the provision of these weapons to Kyiv on Friday, but does not rule out that this will be done next week.
As Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin said earlier in the day, the United States, together with its allies, has provided or intends to provide Ukraine with a total military assistance worth $65 billion.
Russia sent a note to NATO countries over arms supplies to Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that any cargo that contains weapons for Ukraine will become a legitimate target for Russia. The Russian Foreign Ministry said that NATO countries are «playing with fire» by supplying weapons to Ukraine. The Kremlin stated that pumping Ukraine with weapons from the West does not contribute to the success of Russian-Ukrainian negotiations and will have a negative effect. Lavrov also stated that the US and NATO are directly involved in the conflict in Ukraine, «including not only the supply of weapons, but also the training of personnel … on the territory of Great Britain, Germany, Italy and other countries.»
