MOSCOW, May 25 Politically motivated restrictions on food supplies are a tool of neo-colonialism, in order to eliminate hunger in countries in need, it is necessary to abandon all restrictions and sanctions on international food supplies, said reporters Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolai Patrushev.
According to him, at an international meeting on security held in the Moscow region under the auspices of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, «the general opinion was expressed that there is no food shortage in the world as a whole, moreover, overproduction of agricultural products is noted in a number of European countries.»
«At the same time, many countries suffer from food shortages. Transnational corporations that dominate the world agri-food markets have a negative impact on the current situation «, Patrushev said.
«Almost all speakers believe that food problems are caused by ineffective international cooperation, the lack of fair regulation in the food market, in order to eliminate hunger in countries in need, it is necessary to abandon all restrictions and sanctions on international food supplies,» he added.
It was also said that «without any politicization, food should be sent primarily to states suffering from food shortages,» Patrushev said.
«It was emphasized that food security is one of the key factors in maintaining the sovereignty of states, and politically motivated restrictions in this area are nothing but a tool of neo-colonialism,» he concluded.
