“The Rectorate of the Gnessin Academy of Music announces with deep regret that on May 25, after a long illness, Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Prokopov passed away,” the message says.
Representatives of the university promised to name the date and place of farewell to the professor later.
Prokopov worked as a soloist with the Bolshoi Theater orchestra for more than 40 years. He performed the parts of the first trumpet in the performances «Spartacus», «A Midsummer Night's Dream», «Swan Lake», «Aida» and many others.
In 1976, the musician was awarded a medal for labor prowess, and in 2001 was awarded the title of Honored Artist of Russia.
