MOSCOW, 25 May. MAMT them. Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko presented the premiere of Vincenzo Bellini's opera «Norma» staged by Adolf Shapiro with Khibla Gerzmava in the title role, the theatre's website reported.
“The conflict between duty and feeling, which was the basis of the original plot, has never lost its relevance. Bellini is extremely rarely staged in Russia, since it requires a virtuoso mastery of the bel canto technique, and Norma’s part is one of the most difficult in the soprano repertoire. On the stage of the Musical Theater the opera «Norma» will be performed for the first time,» the message reads.
«Norma» was shown on the main stage of the theatre. Musical director and conductor-producer was Christian Knapp. The roles were played by Larisa Andreeva, Sergey Kuzmin, Maxim Osokin, Ksenia Muslanova and Valery Mikitsky.
The Italian premiere of the opera took place at La Scala in 1831. Four years later it was shown in Russia, and in 1837 Norma was staged for the first time in St. Petersburg. Vincenzo Bellini considered the piece to be one of his best works.
Earlier, the premiere of Giuseppe Verdi's opera Il trovatore took place at the Bolshoi Theatre. The main parts were performed by Khibla Gerzmava and Igor Golovatenko.
