YEREVAN, May 27 The Russian state and economy are capable of withstanding the strongest sanctions ever imposed in history, said program director of the Valdai International Discussion Club, researcher Head of the Center for Comprehensive European and International Studies at the National Research University Higher School of Economics Timofey Bordachev.
“Over the past year and a half, we in Russia have changed our view of the world, we have seen that many things that were previously considered less important are of fundamental importance for us. First of all, this is internal economic stability, the preservation of state institutions, the ability of society to self-organize in difficult external conditions. And we are pleased to see that the state, the society, the economy that we have built over the past 30 years are able to withstand the pressure of the strongest sanctions in history that have ever been applied to any state,» Bordachev said on Saturday in Yerevan during a round table on the topic «Military-political union of Armenia and Russia: challenges and prospects.»
According to him, the Russian economy is doing very well and can afford a lot. «Including the implementation of large infrastructure projects outside the borders of Russia, for example, as now, significant funds were provided to friendly Iran to complete the construction of the railway as part of the North-South logistics system,» Bordachev said.
That is, according to him, Russia is not only successfully resisting Western sanctions, but is also developing an active foreign economic presence.
The West stepped up sanctions pressure on Russia over Ukraine, which led to higher prices for electricity, fuel and food in Europe and the United States. Russian President Vladimir Putin has previously stated that the policy of containment and weakening of Russia is a long-term strategy of the West, and sanctions have dealt a serious blow to the entire global economy. According to him, the main goal of the West is to worsen the lives of millions of people. The Russian Federation has repeatedly stated that Russia will solve all the problems the West creates for it.
