
HELSINKI May 28 Army noise canceling headphones save the life of an Estonian reservist The Defense Forces at the Spring Storm exercise, in which the military of a number of NATO countries participated, the Delfi portal reported on Sunday.
“The incident occurred during live firing during the Spring Storm exercise. An accidental bullet hit the head of a reservist of the Kalevsky infantry battalion, but due to the fact that he was wearing army noise-canceling headphones, the bullet ricocheted off them, hitting the back of the head and neck . The victim was taken to the hospital,» the statement said.
According to eyewitnesses, the wounded reservist fired from an anti-tank grenade launcher during the exercises, so he used special noise-canceling headphones.
Major Taavi Karotamm, head of the press service of the Defense Forces, admitted that during the exercises there was an incident when one of the reservists was wounded in the back of the head.
“The soldier was given first aid and sent for a medical examination to the hospital. The fighter was able to return from the hospital to his unit on the same day. The defense forces wish him a speedy recovery. An investigation has been launched to find out the causes of the incident,” Karotam said.
Large-scale exercises «Spring Storm», in which more than 14,000 servicemen from a number of NATO countries took part, were held in Estonia from 15 to 26 May. They are the largest exercises of the Estonian Defense Forces, the purpose of which is the combat training of various units of the Estonian army and the interaction with the military personnel of NATO allies.
