Scientists warn of deadly heat risk

MOSCOW, May 23. About a third of the world's population in the future may be exposed to «unprecedented» climatic conditions due to global warming, according to a study in the scientific journal Nature Sustainability.
According to the article, the current activities of people around the world, leading to global warming of about 2.7 degrees, by 2080-2100 could lead to the impact of «unprecedented heat» on a third of the population (22-39%) of the planet. At this rate, the populations of India, Nigeria, Indonesia, the Philippines and Pakistan will mainly suffer from heat waves, taking into account the population density and climate in these countries.

It is noted that today about 600 million people (about 9% of the population) around the world are already suffering from climate anomalies, who were knocked out of the «human climatic niche» within which society developed.

As the authors of the study emphasized, there is a range of optimal climate within which societies of countries with a high concentration of population are able to actively develop: it covers an average annual temperature of 13 to 27 degrees Celsius. At the same time, too high temperatures, according to the study, are directly related to such negative factors as increased mortality, increased conflicts, as well as migration and the spread of infectious diseases.
The results of the study, as its authors noted, clearly demonstrate the need for more decisive political action to limit the impact of the human factor on global climate change.
