CHISINAU, May 29. Vice-Chairman of the Opposition Moldovan Shor party Marina Tauber told reporters that she remains under house arrest, a decision she said was made by the Chisinau Court of Appeal on Monday.
Earlier, on May 18, the Chisinau District Court extended the policy of house arrest for 20 days. Tauber denies all accusations against him, considering the case a political order.
“The persecution of the opposition and lawlessness continues. Today, the Court of Appeals considered the request of lawyers to remove the measure of restraint from me, the judges rejected the request. This once again confirms that this is a political persecution. European Political Community (June 1 in Chisinau), the opposition criticized the ruling party and the country's leadership,» Tauber said at the exit from the courtroom.
Last week, the parliament stripped her of her parliamentary immunity due to suspicions of illegal financing of the party.
An opposition politician was detained by law enforcement agencies of Moldova on May 1 at the airport in Chisinau, prosecutors accused her of violating restrictions on freedom (she had an undertaking not to leave). Tauber herself noted that she planned to travel abroad for treatment, and a notification about this was sent to the supervisory authorities in advance.
Political analysts in Chisinau note that with these actions, the ruling Action and Solidarity party, which controls all state institutions, including the police, the Prosecutor General's Office and the courts, is putting pressure on the opposition to nullify the protest mood, since Tauber is the most bright leader of all manifestations held by the political force.
