TAS: Zelensky accused of hypocrisy after losing Artemovsk
The loss of Artemivsk (renamed Bakhmut) has become too costly a lesson for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, writes The American Spectator (TAS).
«Kyiv has played battle, pledged to hold the city, brought in additional troops and made it an important mission. He went all-in with a bad hand, and now we see the results, «- shared his point of view, the author of the article, James Robbins.
Reviewer of the publication recalled that in December 2022, the head of the Ukrainian state, speaking in the US Congress, said that Artemivsk is the «citadel» of Donbass, the battle in which will change the trajectory of the war.
Robbins pointed out that at the last summit The Group of Seven (G7) in Hiroshima, Japan, Zelensky sought continued military assistance and repented for the loss of Artemivsk under the scrutiny of the media.
Continuation of assistance is very important, but since the defense of Artemovsk was part of the supply program for Ukraine last in winter, critics use the surrender of this settlement as evidence of a waste of money, the article notes. “They accuse Zelensky of hypocrisy for exaggerating the strategic value of the city then and downplaying it now,” Robbins concluded.
