Roskosmos announced the launch date of the first domestic mission to the Moon in 50 years

MOSCOW, May 30. The launch of the Luna-25 automatic station will take place in August this year, «additional measures are needed for the stable operation of ground controls» during landing, told reporters in the press service of Roskosmos.
Earlier it was reported that the launch of Luna-25 is possible in the launch window in July-August 2023. The station will be the first Russian spacecraft sent to the Moon in almost 50 years.

«It was recognized as expedient to launch the Luna-25 spacecraft in August 2023,» the message says.

It is noted that now the device is undergoing the final cycle of ground tests. At the test bench for the onboard control complex, specialists are completing statistical modeling of the key stage of the mission — a soft landing on the lunar surface.
The press service emphasized that both domestic and foreign experience show that this stage is critical for the success of the mission as a whole. «Luna-25» will have to land for the first time in the history of astronautics in difficult conditions in the vicinity of the South Pole of the Moon.
«In order to achieve the required reliability of the mission, it is necessary to take additional measures to ensure the stable operation of ground-based controls at the stages of carrying out corrections and landing on the lunar surface,» Roscosmos explained.
