MOSCOW, June 1 The Pentagon has signed a contract with SpaceX of American businessman and billionaire Elon Musk to provide satellite communications services for Ukraine, Bloomberg reports citing US Department of Defense statement.
«We continue to work with a number of global partners to provide Ukraine with the sustainable satellite and communications capabilities it needs. Satellite communications represent a vital layer in Ukraine's overall communications network, and the ministry has contracted Starlink for this type of service,» — The agency cites a Pentagon statement.
At the end of March, the Ukrainian edition «Strana.ua» reported that a number of Starlink satellite communication terminals stopped working in Ukraine. It was noted that among the «refuseniks» are, among other things, the military. According to the publication, tens of thousands of terminals are under threat of shutdown.
In April, Pentagon Deputy Spokesperson Sabrina Singh said the United States was continuing discussions with SpaceX to provide satellite communications services to Ukraine.
Starlink is a satellite network designed to provide broadband Internet access anywhere in the world. The project has been implemented by Musk-owned SpaceX since 2018.
