ROME Jun 2 Thursday Night Man climbed onto the main altar of the Vatican Cathedral of St. Peter and completely undressed, the newspaper il Messaggero reports, citing the Welcome to Favelas Telegram channel, which published photos of the action.
Employees of the Basilica and Vatican gendarmes detained the offender and took him to the station for identification and interrogation. Numerous tourists witnessed the scene before the closing of the cathedral itself.
According to Il Messaggero, the man suffers from mental disorders, during the action he scratched himself with his nails. In the photographs, a man stands directly under a bronze canopy by Gianlorenzo Bernini in the center of the main Catholic church in the world.
A similar incident took place in St. Peter's Basilica in January 2016. Then a naked man appeared among the tourists with one backpack on his back.
