MOSCOW, June 2 In 2022, Russia remained the leader in the export of wheat, climbed to 18th place in the world ranking of food exporters, said Vice Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Victoria Abramchenko at the final meeting of the collegium of the Ministry of Agriculture.
«Russia feels confident in the global food market, being a stabilizing supplier. We have risen to 18th place in the world ranking of food exporting countries. And we hold the first place in wheat exports,» Abramchenko said.
According to her, the geography of Russian agricultural exports covers about 160 countries of the world, and the government pays great attention to supporting food exports.
“Last year, 412 Russian companies received 7 billion rubles of subsidies to reimburse part of the transportation costs for a total supply of almost 6 million tons. This year, thanks to the support of the Prime Minister, funding for this measure will be increased from 7 to 11 billion rubles. Thus, we will be able to support the export of agricultural products in the amount of at least 7.3 million tons,» Abramchenko said.
Russia in 2022 updated the record for gross grain harvest — a total of 157.676 million tons were harvested, 29.9% more than from 2021 — and wheat — 104.237 million tons, a 37% increase. In 2023, the grain harvest in the Russian Federation is expected to be 123 million tons, of which wheat — 78 million tons.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the volume of grain supplies by the end of the current agricultural season may exceed 55 million tons, including about 45 million tons of wheat. Grain export in the new agricultural year (from July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024), according to the forecasts of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, may amount to 50-55 million tons.
