Residents of the city of Shebekino, Belgorod Region, will not be allowed to to return home, Vyacheslav Gladkov, the governor of the region, wrote on his Telegram channel.
He noted that the city is still unsafe and acknowledged that there is a danger of looting.
“Certainly, such a risk there is, so our task is to try to ensure the safety of the property that remains there,” he wrote, adding that the administration and emergency services remain in place. According to him, the National Guard and the Ministry of Internal Affairs will increase patrols in the city.
Gladkov also wrote that on Friday he talked with residents of the city at temporary accommodation centers for more than three hours. According to him, it is necessary to transfer people to hostels.
“The reasons are obvious: a huge number of people. And if yesterday people were in shock, they needed a safe place, a clean bed, water and food, then it is impossible to live in such conditions for a long time,” he wrote, adding that people began to be accommodated in university and college dormitories.
Earlier on Friday, the government of the Belgorod region announced the introduction of a ban until June 30 on the movement of vehicles on a number of roads in the Shebekinsky district. Gladkov during the day several times reported on the shelling of the city and nearby settlements, as well as on the wounded and dead.
