NIZHNY NOVGOROD, June 2 The Russian authorities are considering a mechanism for victims of personal data leaks to report it through the State Services and demand compensation, said Milos Wagner, deputy head of Roskomnadzor.
«»One of the mechanisms that is now being proposed, and the Ministry of Digital Development confirms the possibility of its implementation, is through the public services portal to allow persons whose data has become publicly available to declare this and demand compensation directly from the operator, without a trial, without confirming the ownership of these personal data. Only authorization on the public services portal should be enough. There will be no need to contact the operator directly and then go to court,» Wagner told reporters on the sidelines of the CIPR-2023 conference.
He noted that it is important not only to establish responsibility for operators whose data has been leaked, “how much to ensure that the person whose data is in the public domain receives commensurate compensation. We need to understand how human rights will be restored.»
