MOSCOW, June 2 Russian Post and Rusdronoport have agreed to test the delivery of parcels using drones to drone ports, the press service of the postal company reported.
In early May, Nikolai Ryashin, CEO of Rusdronoport, spoke about the creation by Russian developers of a drone port-postal machine, into which a drone can deliver parcels and documents without human intervention.
Russian Post and Rusdronoport agreed to conduct a test for the delivery of parcels using drones to drone ports. The partners will work out a set of measures for the phased development of the ground-based infrastructure of droneports for the development of mail delivery,» the company said in a statement. The companies signed an agreement on this on the sidelines of the Digital Industry of Industrial Russia (CIPR) conference.
It is clarified that the drone port has the functions of a post office, into which unmanned aerial vehicles load parcels. To do this, in the upper part there is a landing surface with an automatic hatch for receiving shipments. After delivering the package using a drone, the client can pick it up as from a regular post office.
It is added that Russian Post will test 2 types of drone ports. The first is a light version with three cells for parcels. The second will have space for storing 8 items at the same time. The maximum weight of a parcel is 10 kilograms. At the same time, the design of the drone port will be burglar-resistant and closed.
Russian Post considers droneports to be an important element of the robotization of logistics and its transformation into a single technological process. Now similar devices are being tested in other countries by several logistics companies and marketplaces. This will be the first experience in Russia, but we are confident that drone ports will help reduce waiting times for customers and speed up delivery on the last mile,” said Sergey Sergushev, Deputy General Director for Logistics of Russian Post.
