MOSCOW, June 3, Andrey Mikhailov. CEO of Moscow Football CSKA club Roman Babaev said that in the next two seasons, Russian clubs will definitely not play in European tournaments, so you need to look for alternative options.
In February 2022, FIFA and UEFA issued a joint statement, according to which Russian national teams and clubs were suspended from participation in international competitions for an indefinite period due to the events in Ukraine.
““There won’t be Eurocups for 10 years? I wouldn’t look that far, we now have a very short planning horizon, but it’s obvious that there won’t be two seasons of European cups for sure. Therefore, we need to think about what we can change inside, what we have alternative options to at least partially compensate for the isolation,» Babayev told reporters.
Earlier, in connection with the sanctions, the issue of a possible transfer of the RFU to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) was raised.
“I can’t unequivocally answer this question, because there was no analysis of how this would happen. Taking into account the fact that not everyone in Asia is also friendly towards Russia, there will be either only Asian tournaments, or there will be an opportunity to compete for qualification to the World Cup. The same applies to the Asian Champions League. It is worth carefully studying and analyzing. I am convinced that there was (such) analysis in the RFU. Apparently, since hope remains with UEFA, a pause was taken. As far as I know, this issue has not been completely closed,» the CSKA general director emphasized.
