MOSCOW, June 4 Over the past year, book production in Russia has increased in price by 15-20%, by the end of 2023 its price may increase even more by 15%, Izvestia writes with reference to the Russian Book Union (RKS) and publishing houses.
The RCC explained what was happening with the growth of the exchange rate, which affected the purchase of imported printing materials, as well as expensive logistics from China and other Asian countries, to the markets of which domestic publishers and printing houses reoriented.
The increase in the cost of equipment and spare parts for it from European countries, in addition, Russian paper producers also raised prices. According to the RCC forecast, the growth in the cost of books will continue this year, and by the end of 2023 it may reach 10-15%.
The press service of the Ministry of Tsifra told Izvestia that last year an interdepartmental working group was formed to monitor and prevent unreasonable growth in the cost of paper, which made it possible to keep the growth in prices for paper of scarce grades at a level not exceeding inflation.
In October 2022, the head of the analytics department at the research company NTech, Daria Akimova, said that book prices in Russia in September increased by an average of 15-20% compared to January, while the changes were caused by difficulties in the industry, including import equipment. In March last year, the head of the editorial group of the MIF publishing house, Olga Kiseleva, reported that due to problems with logistics and the supply of materials, in particular paper, book prices will continue to rise, and a growth rate of 30% is the most realistic figure.
